These simple home remedies will make your lip smile

You look gorgeous when you smile! Healthy lips, undoubtedly, increase the charm to that wonderful smile of yours. You start the day winking at the mirror, but something catches your eye and your smile fades away. Come winters, some of us shy away from the camera and the mirror alike. Reason?

Flaky, chapped dry lips.

You are someone who always carries a lip balm in your pocket or handbag (sometimes both). You regularly rub the balm over your lips now and then. Especially before leaving the house or meeting someone. But a sip of water, a whiff of dry, cool breeze and you are back to square one.

Lips get chapped because they get dried out. As the air is colder in winters, it cannot hold moisture as well as warm air can. Lips don't have oil glands like the rest of our skin, so they're prone to getting drier.
Relax, there’s hope!

Here are some simple home remedies for dry lips to tide through the winter.

These home remedies for dry lips might seem too simple. So simple that you might wonder: are these home remedies truly going to help my dry lips? But remember. The simplest tips work best, especially when done consistently.

Dry lip remedy 1: Moisturize them

Drink lots of water daily (at least eight glasses) and consume fluid-rich diets to keep them hydrated.

Try using chap-stick or balm at night to prevent dry lips in the morning.
Use a lip balm made of natural beeswax or a medical lip balm too.

Dry lip remedy 2: Cover them

Keeping them covered with a light cloth will keep the moisture from escaping.

Dry lip remedy 3: Love them

  • Applying pure organic honey on the lips helps. Honey is a great moisturizer with both healing and antibacterial properties.
  • Applying a paste of honey and glycerin can help too.

Dry lip remedy 4: Exfoliate them

  • Exfoliate your lips twice a week using a freshly prepared mixture of honey and brown sugar. Remember to moisturize them after scrubbing.
  • You may mix two teaspoons of sugar with one teaspoon of honey, apply the paste to your lips and leave it for a few minutes.

Gently rub away the mixture with your fingers and wash it off with lukewarm water. Avoid using commercial scrub, toothbrush or washcloth to exfoliate. They leave the lips feeling drier.

Dry lip remedy 5: Leave them

Don't lick your lips. Saliva from the tongue further strips them of moisture leading to more dryness.
